New Tools That I'm Trying Out
It may not be Beta for them, but it's Beta for me.
PAPYRS: This one is in beta testing. I just started playing with it today, and so far I like what I see. It's sort of billed as an easy Intranet creator. Users can develop pages, invite users, collect data via forms, share pictures and files, make comments, and more. Page creators can invite users to their page and allow different rights. Form data can be exp orted as a CSV file.
This seems like a much more flexible Blackboard that can be individualized for classes. It could also be used to create that Intranet that you've all been waiting for.
For now it's free, and they promise that after beta testing that there will still be a free version. I'm not sure what will change. Currently the storage capacity is 512 MB.
I have not found much of a tutorial out there. Once I'm more familiar with it, I may create one. Look for this to move to Teacher Tools in the near future.

ONLINE BOOKSHELVES: There are several online sites that serve as bookshelves, complete with ratings, reviews and suggestions. I'm trying to see which one will work for me in the Media Center. I'm currently looking at GoodReads, LibraryThing and Shelfari. I've used LibraryThing with my personal collection, and there are things that I like about it, but these may just be the result of familiarity. I like the interface and look of GoodReads, abut I'm still learning to navigate the site. Shelfari looks nice, but I think it's a paysite.

EVERNOTE: Here's a funny one. I went in to create an account and it turned out that I already had one. Seems like I played with it before. I obviously didn't play with it enough. Wow, this is really cool. It's kind of like DROPBOX but with way more options. I am exploring this for use with the Paperless Classroom.
Here's what it does: You can save pictures, audio, text, website info etc. and it syncs with any other computer or device that has EVERNOTE installed. I have it running on my phone (Droid), but I'm sure it works in the i world.
What Is It?

Zamzar: Ever need to convert your file because the person to whom you are giving the file can't open it? Zamzar may be an option.
ClassTools: If you came across this site by accident, you would likely keep moving. It looks like that first page you created back in college. You know the one, the one of which you were so proud. It's not so impressive today. However it looks, I found it listed on a teacher Web 2.0 list, and it looks like it has some potential, particularly the games. Kids love some games. I'm going to give it a try. It it works, I'll move it over to Teacher Tools.
Here's a game I created.
